Why We Started an Airbnb Management Company

We weren’t on the leading edge when we realized just how big Airbnb was going to be a few years back. In fact, we were probably a little behind. The more we researched and learned, the more we knew Airbnb was going to disrupt the whole lodging industry just like Uber disrupted ride sharing.

Our company has two corporate homes where our vendors stay when they come to town and visit.  Vendors usually don’t stay over the weekends, so we opened up the weekends to our employees for staycations.  Sometimes, there were still some open nights so we decided to put those on Airbnb to see what would happen.

Much to our surprise, the homes started renting, and fast.  Almost every available night got booked and we even had someone reach out and ask if he could rent one of the homes for 45 nights.  We moved around a couple reps, and employees and made it happen.

One of our founders has multiple homes in Orlando, Florida that he has been renting for over ten years to guests that are going to Disney World.  He uses the largest short-term rental management company in Orlando. The owner of the Orlando management company shared all their processes to help us with the corporate housing and employee stays.

Once we saw how much these corporate homes started renting on Airbnb, we looked for a company similar to the Orlando management company to manage the homes.  We couldn’t find one company in Kansas City that would manage our properties to the standards we would demand. So, we saw the opportunity and created Second Door.
